CSC Summer School in High-Performance Computing
- June 24 - July 3, 2013, Espoo, Finland.
The 4th CSC Summer School brings together undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from various fields of computational science, featuring lectures and hands-on training on necessary skills in scientific software development. The school takes place at Nuuksio, Espoo, Finland.
The school covers the following topics:
- Fortran 95/2003 and C programming languages
- Basics of parallel programming with the message-passing interface (MPI) and OpenMP paradigm
- More advanced topics in MPI and hybrid MPI+OpenMP parallel programming
- Improving application parallel scalability and serial performance
- Parallel programming tools, compilers and libraries
- Software engineering of real-world HPC application suites

CSC Summer School in HPC 2012 - two weeks remaining for registration!
- June 25 - July 6, 2012, Espoo, Finland
Two weeks of learning and good company in nice surroundings, under the midnight
sun. In the third CSC Summer School you will learn all the necessary ingredients
of utilizing supercomputers for solving your scientific challenges. And, to have
some good times, too!
The school is aimed at graduate students working in various fields of
computational science, e.g., chemistry, physics, life sciences, engineering or
economics. Also undergraduates as well as post-docs will find the school very
useful. The school takes place at Nuuksio, Espoo, Finland. The venue, Solvalla
Sports Institute, is near a nature preservation area that resembles Finland's
nature at its best. It is conveniently located in the Helsinki metropolitan
area.
The following topics will be covered:
- Basics of parallel programming with the message-passing interface (MPI) as
well as thread-based OpenMP paradigms
- More advanced topics in MPI and hybrid MPI+OpenMP parallel programming
- Fortran 95/2003 and C programming languages in scientific programming
- Improving application scalability and serial performance
- Parallel programming tools, compilers and libraries
- Building real-world HPC application suites
- Awk, Sed, shell etc. scripting techniques and other Unix niceties
The lectures are given by experts from CSC and visiting specialists. The
language of the school is English.

SEVENTH SUMMER SCHOOL ON SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS
- July 3 - 6, 2012, Ispra, Italy
The school illustrates the motivations to conduct sensitivity analysis and offers
an accessible treatment to the techniques used in global sensitivity analysis.
The program begins with the first principles of sensitivity analysis and guides the student
through the full range of recommended practices with exercises and application
examples.
Candidatures to the school have to be sent to sensitivity-analysis at jrc.ec.europa.eu by 15 February 2012.
The school can accomodate up to 25 participants. The evaluation of candidates will be done in March.
Successful candidates will be informed not later than April 2nd.
The instructors are Andrea Saltelli (JRC), William Becker (JRC), Stefano Tarantola (JRC), Bertrand Iooss (EDF, France),
Emanuele Borgonovo (Bocconi University) and Sergei Kucherenko (Imperial College London).
The tariff will be approximately 550€ and includes four nights accommodation with breakfast, 4 lunches, 7 coffee breaks.
