Summary of the project
CMBLOOD will provide ICT driven contribution to the Society of Knowledge in the area of haematology.
The project is extremely relevant with the priorities of the ongoing 7th FP of EC. CMBLOOD will develop
advanced ICT tools supporting some of the most challenging topics of the National Centre for Information
Technologies and the planned Regional Centre for Supercomputer Applications.
CMBLOOD has a strongly expressed interdisciplinary motivation. The project team of young researchers and carefully chosen consultants with strong experience in ICT and in haematology has the potential to solve the addressed problems. The group of scientists involved in the project is built up strictly following the rules of the Bulgarian National Science Fund as well as the general EC polices for strengthening of the European Research Area.
The following advanced ICT technologies are integrated in or closely related to the proposed innovative
solutions of CMBLOOD and the future work of the project team: a) Image and sensor data processing;
b) Parallel and distributed computing; c) Grid supported applications.
The Basic Organisation, the Institute for Parallel Processing, is a leader in the development of advanced ICT
research infrastructure. It hosts the National Grid Centre.
The expected results of CMBLOOD will be first step towards the final goal: provide medical doctors with
personalised ICT based tools for real-time data-driven simulation of the effects of different treatment
options to patients with specific pathological haematological diseases.
This goal well illustrates the potential socio-economic impact of CMBLOOD.
