Situated on a small peninsula, linked with the mainland by a 400 m long isthmus. It is 30 km north from the regional centre Bourgas and 3 km south from Sunny Beach. There are more than 40 preserved medieval churches here.

Some of them have stunningly beautiful facades and interiors and are among the best preserved ones in the Balkan Peninsula.
The narrow cobblestone lanes, old houses with wooden bay windows and external staircases lend a unique romantic atmosphere to the town.
