Dedicated to the 65th birthday of Owe Axelsson.
The Central Laboratory on Parallel Processing of the Bulgarian Academy
of Sciences in cooperation with the Division of Numerical Analysis and
Statistics of the University of Rouse will organize the second workshop
on "Large-Scale Scientific Computations".
This second in a row workshop fits in the scientific framework of the first
one, held in the International House of Scientists "F. Curie", Varna, Bulgaria,
June 7-11, 1997, and is planned to have two special tracks:
"Computational Linear Algebra"
"Large-Scale Scientific Computations of Engineering and Environmental
The workshop is scheduled for June 2-6, 1999; arrival on June 1,
and departure after midday on June 6.
The workshop will be held at the Conference Center of BULBANK in Sozopol,
a picturesque town on the Black Sea coast, 36 km south of Burgas
(the nearest international airport).
Specific topics of interest (but not limited to) are the following:
According to the planned special tracks of the workshop, the Organizing
Committee also encourages contributions related to advanced applications
of large-scale scientific computations in such fields as: computational
fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, computational chemistry, computational
Multigrid and domain decomposition methods
Adaptive methods and local refinement algorithms
Splitting algorithms for coupled systems
Basic iterative methods and preconditioning techniques
Robust preconditioning of parameter dependent problems
Conservative schemes and mixed finite element computations
Efficient algorithms for non-conforming finite element problems
Multiscale methods: theory and computation
Eigenvalue and eigenvector computation
Stability of algorithms in numerical linear algebra
Fast algorithms for structured matrices
Least squares and total least squares
Linear algebra algorithms in signal processing
Parallel algorithms and performance analysis

The lectures begin on June 2 morning. Therefore the arrival date
is June 1. The lectures are planned to continue till noon, June 6. There
will be plenary and invited lectures of approximately 40 min and presentations
in the special sessions. The duration of the talks in the special sessions
will be determined by the corresponding session organizer(s). The talks
not included in any of the special sessions will be 20-30 min long plus
time for discussion.
Proceedings of only refereed and presented papers will be published in
a book form. Our intention is to establish a tradition publishing the
workshop volumes in the VIEWEG Series Notes on Numerical Fluid
The papers should be written in standard LaTeX. An appropriate style
will be provided later.
|Deadline for submission of extended abstracts (1 page stating clearly
the originality of the results):
|Notification of acceptance of the talks on the basis of the submitted
||January 31, 1999
|Deadline for submission of full papers (up to 10 pages):
|Notification of acceptance of full papers:

The conference fee will cover a booklet of abstracts, an excursion, a conference
dinner, a reception, transportation from and to the Burgas airport (and/or
railroad station), as well as expenses for publishing of the submitted
papers. The proceedings volume will be available at additional cost (to
be specified later, subject to negotiations with the Publisher).
The fee for accompanying persons is 80 USD.

||COMMERCIAL BANK BIOCHIM
Please take into consideration that the registration fee is assumed
free of all bank transfer charges. For quicker and cheaper transfers you
can use the SWIFT code.
The workshop participants will be offered a full board and accommodation
at the Conference Center of BULBANK, where the registration desk will be
also placed. The Accommodation Fee is US $200. This covers: single
room, full board for the whole duration of the workshop (arrival date June
1 beginning with a dinner and departure date June 6 ending up with a lunch).
An early payment of the conference fee will guarantee hotel reservation
at the Conference Center of BULBANK.
There will be a local transportation arranged for the participants of the
workshop on the arrival and departure days. This includes transportation
from/to Burgas Airport or Burgas Railway/Bus Station. Alternatively, you
can use the regular buses Burgas Airport - Burgas, and Burgas - Sozopol.
The late Conference Registration Fee and the Accommodation Fee are payable
at the Registration Desk in US $ (cash). So far, we are not able to accept
credit cards or checks. Moreover, please note that all Bulgarian banks
and change offices, accept only clean, undamaged (and crispy) notes and
we, at the registration desk, must do so as well.
