The Central Laboratory on Parallel Processing of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Division of Numerical Analysis and Statistics of the University of Rouse will organize the second workshop on "Large-Scale Scientific Computations". The format of the workshop is expected to be similar to the first one held in the International House of Scientists "F. Curie'', in the "Sv. Konstantin i Elena'' resort, near Varna, Bulgaria on June 7-11, 1997.

This workshop, in addition to papers covering various aspects of scientific computing, will have have two special tracks:

"Computational Linear Algebra"

"Large-Scale Scientific Computations of Engineering and Environmental Problems"

The workshop is scheduled for: June 2-6, 1999, with arrival on June 1, and departure after midday on June 6.

The workshop will be held in the picturesque town of Sozopol, on the Black Sea coast, 36 km to the south from Burgas (the nearest international airport).

Specific topics of interest (but not limited to) are the following:
  • Multigrid and domain decomposition methods
  • Adaptive methods and local refinement algorithms
  • Splitting algorithms for coupled systems
  • Basic iterative methods and preconditioning techniques
  • Robust preconditioning of parameter dependent problems
  • Conservative schemes and mixed finite element computations
  • Efficient algorithms for non-conforming finite element problems
  • Multiscale methods: theory and computation
  • Eigenvalue and eigenvector computation
  • Stability of algorithms in numerical linear algebra
  • Fast algorithms for structured matrices
  • Least squares and total least squares
  • Linear algebra algorithms in signal processing
  • Rank-revealing computations
  • Parallel algorithms and performance analysis

Accommodation in a single room with full board will be provided at approximately 45 USD per day. An early payment of the conference fee will guarantee hotel reservation.

    Special Sessions

Following the already established tradition, special sessions will be organized in the framework of the scientific program of the workshop. Participants interested in organizing such special sessions are invited to contact any of the organizers or the secretary of the meeting.

Proceedings of only refereed and presented papers will be published in a book form (more details will be announced later).

    Contributed papers
