Organizer
The Central Laboratory on Parallel Processing
(formerly, the Center of Informatics and Computing Technology),
Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS)
in cooperation with the Institute of Mathematics and
Informatics (IMI), BAS will organize workshop on
``Large-Scale Scientific Computations''
which is intended to become a traditional
event that will take place every second year beginning 1997.
The format of the workshop is expected to be similar to the
IMACS International Symposium on Iterative Methods in Linear Algebra, held
in Blagoevgrad (June 1995).
This first in a row workshop is planned to have special emphasis on:
``Numerical Simulation of Groundwater Contaminant
Transport and its Environmental Applications''
in the form of training seminar.
For this particular topic we acknowledge the support by
ROSTE, the Venice office of UNESCO.
Date
The workshop is scheduled for June 7-June 11, 1997 with
arrival: June 6 and departure: noon June 11.
Place
International House of Scientists "F. Curie", Resort "sv. Konstantin i Elena" near Varna.
Topics
Specific topics of interest are:
Adaptive methods for coupled elliptic systems and
convection-diffusion problems;
MG/DD (multigrid and domain decomposition)
methods for linear/non-linear coupled elliptic
and convection-diffusion problems;
Multiscale methods; theory and computation;
Conservative schemes and mixed finite element computations;
Basic iterative methods and robust preconditioning;
Parallel performance;
Modeling of contaminant transport in hydrology
and related applications.

Special Sessions
Participants interested in organizing special sessions
are invited to contact any member of the local organizing committee.
Proceedings
Proceedings (in a book form) of only refereed papers will be published
(tentatively) by the Publishing house of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
(more details later). You can see example
LaTeX file for full papers here.
Conference fee
Conference fee: US$ 200 (till April 15, 1997);
Late Conference fee: US$ 250;
Students Conference fee: US$ 100.
The fee will include local
transportation, excursion and some social events, conference party and
a volume of the Proceedings papers.
Accommodation, hotel (limited number of rooms in "F. Curie") and meals,
can be provided at estimated US$ 45 a day.
A list of
hotels (walking distance from the conference building) will be provided later (see the WWW-site to be arranged).
An early payment of the
conference fee will guarantee hotel reservation.
Students/Recent Ph.D. support
It is anticipated
to support of up to 4 (four) students/recent Ph.D. post-docs (up to three years beyond thesis);
namely, their conference fee will be waived and local cost covered.
The selection criteria for this will be decided by the local
organizing committee based on recommendation letters (for students) and based on the submitted papers for recent PhD holders.
Contributed papers
Deadline for submission of extended abstracts (January 15, 1997)
and full papers (approximately 10 pages limit) by February 15, 1997
(needed if intended to appear in the Proceedings after
a standard but speeded-up journal-type refereeing procedure).
LATEX styles will be provided accordingly (cf., later the WWW-site). It is anticipated to have the Proceedings printed out prior to the meeting.
More information later.
